oh, my. these chloé pumps certainly are most gorgeous. with a stacked 4 1/2" heel you'll be head and shoulders above the crowd, but with a wee little peep-toe and cutouts all along the shoe, these shoes are out of sight. these are just out and out sexy - not blatant, not over-the-top, but most certainly sexy. yow. how do i call them mine???
you know, erin fetherston seems to have that certain something, that certain sense of whimsy, a gloss of parisian chic and a humourous sophistication about her designs, that you cannot help but love it. at least, that's my take on it. in my mind, her collections are simply charming...
a lovely mix of milky blue and fierce red beads, make this art-deco 'apollo' pendant something that i most definitely wouldn't object to having myself. not one bit, i'm just saying...
and into the real world it goes: balenciaga gets translated on the red carpet by the lovely, and almost always sartorially courageous, jennifer connelly:

i'm out of sorts with the first cold i've had in years. my head feels as if it could pop off and fly away at any given moment, and well, i'm just not at my best. so, a pictorial review of the last few days in paris:

what a different girl chloé has become.
no longer the bohemian, she has turned into the modernist. which invariably means, i like her that much more. with a hint of marni, which isn't a surprise, given paulo melim's tenure with the house, and a fresh new outlook, chloé is a stronger, less agreeable girl. a girl i can get along with.
i did not expect to adore the kenzo s/s 2008 collection as much i did and do. the exuberance of colour, the playfulness of the clothes, the use of fabric and the loose, pretty cut of the pieces just made me smile. again and again.
fast becoming a favourite of mine, sonia rykiel's shows always seem to be the most fun. the girls are told to smile, to smile! and the skinny girls dancing in their light as air frocks at the end, well, that is always a good time.

so hysterical, even if you do not understand french. you will, however, understand the shock in their tone when ms. wintour wears the same outfit on a sunday! then again on tuesday! the horror!
another show that plays the lightness of spring against a darker, harder edged look. i adored the look of the girbaud show - by no means was it groundbreaking or otherworldly, but the pieces looked wearable and fresh and the girls looked like they were having so much fun on this runway. it's refreshing to see that...
i think i'll take my positively ancient girbaud coat out from winter storage now. perhaps i can still pull it off...
christian lacroix s/s 2008 - what fun, how pretty, how mildly eccentric!
a very hard looking givenchy, which to some didn't click. i am of the thought that if it works for me, it's good enough - a very simplistic view of fashion, i'm sure... but nonetheless ~
a decidedly colourful and pattern-plenty show - dries van noten makes wearing this much at once seem almost simple.

the oh-so modern and sophisticated bent of akris:
the ever-fascinated with youth, the kaiser - karl lagerfeld s/s 2008 ~ young, fresh, with nods to irina, pete doherty (yawn!) and lets us know that wayfarers are continuing on for the next little while. woot.
long skirts and traditional indian dress pants may not be precisely up your alley, however the long and colourful dresses, and some of the shorter not-so colourful pieces seems impossibly comfortable and quite delightful. and the colour palette alone of the veronique branquinho show were definitely up my..well, alley.
how much can you take in really? if you paid attention to every single detail, jean paul gaultier shows would last roughly a full week. there is always just so much to see. he amazes me with his sheer abundance of ideas and then he bewilders by how he thinks to put it all together. there are pirates a-plenty, a safari expedition, beaded striped sweaters and dresses, as well as brides a-plenty.
with all this, how could you not find something that you adore?
ann demeulemeester tends to stay far from what is expected. she designs, i think, for herself - and for the countless women who stay true to this type of look. layered, but not necessarily sloppy: something that i would call relaxed refinement. it is most definitely not for everyone, but i'd say those necklaces of hers may very well be.
there were no models rigged with their own lights this season, but there was a definite concept that revealed itself quite quickly at the viktor & rolf s/s 2008 show. and although the violin neckpieces were probably not meant to be taken too seriously, the commedia dell'arte probably was. and although this didn't beckon a wild response from me, there are quite a few lovely and wearable pieces.
a bit harsher, a bit darker than what i've grown accustomed to with her, but the sophia kokosalaki show hinted at just a bit of vamp... and some pieces were lovely, not all, but some...
this was a show of much-too-much and all of it all at once. but i do think i saw, somewhere in the mix, a lot of pretty, wearable pieces. wunderkind is known to be larger-than-life and wolfgang joop leans heavily on the whimsy, but there is something there, most definitely.
three looks in an assortment of fabrics - from chintz to something in between leaves me somewhat perplexed. but, will the balenciaga show be lauded or panned?
i can't really say. the shoes were phenomenal, that much i am sure of.
the s/s 2008 show from undercover by jun takahashi, on the other hand, did elicit some bubbly excitement. the slightly off-centre, almost eccentric show of girls in retro bikinis, little dresses and tops - delighted my somewhat off-kilter sense of style.
perhaps again, nothing ground breaking, but it appealed to me in some small way...
paris hasn't knocked my socks off yet. there have been a few shows that i've liked the looks of, but nothing has excited me enough to exclaim it loudly here.
but to that end, a selection of looks, i sort of dig... if not love.
