bui.

such a fun and veering-ever-so close to being a little bit punk; the barbara bui fall collection totally won me over. i loved this mix of textures and proportions. with chunky, hip-length furs (odd that i enjoyed the furs, usually i just keep mum) and skinny pants, little frocks paired closed to the body blazers, all in black or jewel tones. this is a girl i could totally be friends with. and raid her closet.

sky-high.

i like giambattista valli. he showed absolutely nothing for day, but his white, black and red showing for fall 2008 was lovely, without being flirty or too cute. he does a feminine modernity that i enjoy. also? the shoes were sky-high and fantastic.

austere.

truth be told, i didn't think much of stefano pilati's last collection for ysl. it was a collection that was neither here nor there, and indifference is almost worse than hate. this collection, the fall 2008 collection is another story altogether. it was hard, austere, futuristic and made no illusions. what you saw, is what you'll get. the tailoring was precise in tweeds and felts. it was a look, that although totally unlike this season's balenciaga show, had a vein of similarity between them. a collection very well done...

breezy.

lovely and light, breezy and free - that's pretty much what stella mccartney does best. a sort of modern-day love-child. and that's what she stuck to for fall 2008. not formulaic, just dependable. (i am, however, refraining from posting the more brocade-y, curtain-y looks she sent down the catwalk, because, well, i don't feel it's necessary).

darkly.

darkly gorgeous, riccardo tisci's fall 2008 collection for givenchy was an absolutely lush and romantic affair. one should also note, that there is a fair amount of siouxsie sioux in there as well. so prettily dark and lovely...

prints.

when i was much younger, dries van noten scared the hell out of me. not literally, obviously, but i have always held prints at an arm's length. i'd never dream of wearing one for fear of actually being noticed.

now that i'm older, dries van noten has crept up on my list of designer's that i just adore and think is genius. just take a look at his fall 2008 show, and tell me you can't see it...

upswing.

look what a difference a day makes. yesterday's shows were packed with gorgeousness.

christian lacroix, known more for his couture than his ready-to-wear showed a collection that was, in a word - divine. he really is the master of the luxe-whimsy. gorgeous colours, fabrics, texture and styling. trust me, if i had the dosh (and a place to wear it) - the dress in the second photo would be mine.

langweilig.

i'm not trying to be cool or an arrogant snob when i say this, so do take it with a grain of salt: the brunt of the paris shows have bored me.

that's quite the statement, i know - but it's true. so, i'm not going to wax poetic and bore you with the reasons why. i will however, leave you with a few looks that may or may not have piqued my interest.

shocking.

it's almost shocking what nicholas ghesquiere manages to do every season.

his collections for balenciaga are always awe-inspiring for their exactness, their tailoring, their hardness. the girls seem to stomp down the catwalk with determination and confidence. however, this does not deter from the fact that his clothes, however precise, are gorgeous, feminine but not girly, and infinitely on the cutting edge. his tailoring and use of fabrics are so ingenious and his influences are processed in ways that no one else processes them. he seems almost untouchable with the use of his imagination...

always.

vivienne westwood's shows always seem like a good time. although, for the most part, her collections need to be broken down into wearable pieces, her clothes always carry a sense of humour about themselves, even though this time around her message was one of the environment and global warming.

so, when she enlisted 7 and 8 year olds to design the prints for her new collection, as she told them to imagine "a society of jungle-dwelling eco-warriors. the clothes that resulted are the warriors' uniform" you cannot help but adore her vision...

confounded.

i've never claimed any educated wisdom in regard to fashion. i document what pleases my eye and my heart, and sometimes what does not. and sometimes, when it just truly baffles me, i have to document what it is that makes me shake my head and ask someone else to explain it to me.

i know that maison martin margiela has alway been fashion-forward. that what may seem strange to some, becomes de rigeur the next year because of what he showed on the catwalk. and should that happen with his fall 2008 collection, so be it. however, i can firmly state that i just don't understand this latest collection and would find most items completely unwearable and to some extent, unattractive.

almost.

this is what i would call a very quiet dior show from galliano. fall 2008 was almost prim, almost proper in a bright and cheery 60s sort of way. nothing too over-the-top and nothing to scare anyone away. perhaps even, a little boring..?

outré.

rick owens has never been known for his work with pastels, and so his fall 2008 collection wasn't a surprise in that regard. however, some of the looks, the ones with furred legwarmers and funnel-necked collars that could almost take flight, may be a bit too outré for even his most devoted of wearers. yet, there was quite a lot that was very wearable, and of course, extremely modern.

eleanor.

hullo gorgeous. these eleanor platforms are what one would call 0n-trend. but really, this is the type of shoe that never really goes out of style. wear them now with thick grey tights and short skirts or wear them later, with bare legs or any style of jean you desire, whether it be drainpipe or wide-legged...

so rough, but so very pretty! found here, at la garconne.
